Members of the Langley Olympians Swim Club had a strong showing last weekend at the Hyack Festival Youth Cup in New Westminster at the Canada Games Pool.
The meet — which required all swimmers to have at least one B.C. AAA provincial qualifying time in order to participate — made for some stiff competition, but the Olympians swimmers more than held their own, medalling, posting some personal bests and also achieving qualifying times for future meets.
Chelsea Borrowdale, 13, led the way with a pair of gold medals in the girls’ 13/14 100 breast and 200 breast as well as two bronze medals in the 200 and 400 individual medley.
Martha Metcalfe, 15, won silver in the girls 15 and over 400 IM while Robyn Nakano, 14, won bronze in the girls 13/14 100 fly and 200 fly events. Nakano also achieved her age group national time in the 400IM at 5:22.08.
Justin Schramm, 15, won bronze in the boys 15 and over 200 fly, setting a new club record in a time of 2:10.05.
And Hillary Metcalfe, 15, won bronze in the girls 15 and over 200 free.
Siobhan Board, Mackenzie Dong, Kennedy Douglas, Lisa Grier, Jenessa Hillman, Brayden Kells, Joshua Kim, Ellen Lansing, Renae Ledoux, Kelley MacDonald and Avery Martin all made the finals in their respective events.
Renae Ledoux, 13, added a new age group national qualifying time in the girls 13/14 200IM (2:34.41).
Swimmers posting 100 per cent best times at the meet were Mackenzie Dong, Bennett MacDonald and Hugh McNeill.
Head Coach of Langley Olympians Swim Club, Brian Metcalfe, said of his swimmers; “We were up against some extremely tough competition and the swimmers had to race hard to make finals. We came away with some medals, best times, a Club Record and a couple of new Age Group National qualifying times so overall it was a very successful meet.”
