It was in December when the Langley Lightning really seemed to come together as a team.

The girls midget house hockey team was having trouble finding a tournament to enter, when they finally got the green light to play at the Penticton Fire on Ice rep tournament.

“Even though we were not a rep team, they allowed (us) to enter,” said coach John Campbell.

“It was at this point where these young ladies grouped together and played their game of hockey as if they were together for years, and won the tournament.”

With the momentum of that tournament victory, they captured another gold medal a few weeks later at the Langley Girls Ice Hockey Association Angels on Ice tournament.

And the team capped things off earlier this month by captured the Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association female midget playoff title in the Black Group. They beat the Richmond Ravens 3-1 in the final.

“Our goal at the start of the season was to make sure all these girls where going to become a tight meshed group, learn to play as a team and play a passing game,” Campbell said.

The team includes head coach John Campbell, coach Ally Latter, Jordyn Flaherty, Larissa Price, Brooke Deakin, Sarah Schwagele, Denisa Micu, Olivia Anderson-Deck, Emily Yeomans, coach John Yeomans, Shaylyn Campbell, Brooke Saunders, Kasey Knowles, Isabelle Reader, Ginnah Della Mattia, Britney Ingham and Elizabeth Lacey.
