Mission boxers lit up the competition at a recent tournament in North Vancouver.
Brennen Patterson, 14, hailing from the Mission City Boxing Club, had his first-ever fight with Lorenzo Rogers, representing Griffins Boxing Club, eking out the win, 6-2 in the exhibition match.
“I was impressed with his technique,” said Mission coach Dale Gatin. “He kept his hands up and threw a lot of combinations.
Regular combatant Sean McIntosh took out Surrey’s Chris Cordova in decisive fashion by a score of 20-7, which earned bout of the night honours.
The main event of the night featured Mission’s Leeland Oosterbrink, up against Christian Nica.
“Leeland was quite nervous about being the main event, as he is a novice, but he stepped up to the challenge,” said Gatin. “He was able work his jab and combinations to keep Christian at a distance. He landed a strong right hand throughout the fight and went on to a convincing 13-3 win.”
