Multiple athletes from Abbotsford’s Twisters Gymnastics Club brought home medals from the Western Canadian Championships in Okotoks, Alta. Twisters had 14 athletes representing the club on Team BC in a variety of categories.
In the National Open category, Team BC’s female and male squads both won gold.
Twister Ashlynn Skulstad, claimed all-around bronze, won gold on the floor, and was a finalist in the bars and beam events. Marquita Morison claimed bronze on the the bars and finished eighth all-around. Twister Dawson Friesen won gold on the horizontal bar and grabbed all-around bronze, while teammate Wyatt Lavers finished seventh on the floor exercise and 11th in the all-around competition.
The Team BC Elite 4 team won gold, with Michael Frew claiming silver on the pommel horse, and bronze on the parallel bars and horizontal bar.
Team BC’s Elite 3 Team A won gold, while the Team B won bronze. Twister Ethan Ikeda claimed all-around bronze and silver on the vault, while teammate Evan Raible finished 11th on the pommel horse.
The Team BC Level 5 team also won gold, with Twister Brendan Ansell finishing sixth all-around, placing fourth in the floor exercise and the pommel horse. Teammate Kris Unipan placed 12th all-around and finished fifth on the vault.
In the National Novice class, Twister Brienna Gaspar finished 12th all-around, and was a finalist in the vault event. Teammate Tamara Skulstad finished 13th all-around and was a finalist in the floor event. Both won silver with the team.
In the Provincial 5 Open class, Twister Justine Robinson won silver with her team, claimed bronze on the vault and was a finalist in the floor exercise. She also placed eighth all-around.
In the pre-novice elite category, Twisters Zoe Rumsby and Mikhayla Rosenow won bronze with their team. Rumsby finished 11th all-around and fifth on the beam, while Rosenow finished 14th all-around and eighth on the vault.
