In a back-and-forth game, it was the Langley Thunder getting the last word.
Sean Lundstrom snapped an 8-8 tie with less than four minutes remaining as the Langley Junior Thunder opened the B.C. Junior A Lacrosse League season with a win.
The team defeated the Port Coquitlam Saints at the Poco Rec Centre on Friday night (April 26).
Langley had trailed 3-1 after the opening period, but fought their way back into the game with four goals in an eight-minute span to start the second to pull ahead 5-3. The Saints cut the lead to 5-4 before intermission and tied things up early in the third. And from that point on, the teams traded goals before Lundstrom struck for the winner.
Brett Dobray (four goals) and Adam Will (three goals, one assist) led the way for the Thunder while Lundstrom and Connar Abrams had a goal and an assist apiece.
Ryley Brown made 28 saves in goal for Langley.
The Thunder look to make it a 2-0 start to the season when they travel to Burnaby to face the Junior Lakers on Sunday (May 5).
The Thunder home opener is May 9 at 8 p.m. at the Langley Events Centre.
