The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades split their weekend games falling to Saskatchewan Huskies, 75-65, in Saskatoon, on Friday and defeating the Alberta Pandas, 68-67, on Saturday. The Cascades go into the exams break with a 5-3 conference record in Canada West Western Division.
On Friday, the Cascades women’s basketball team came out strong and led by four points at the half, 34-30. In the second half the Huskies outscored UFV by 14 points to earn the 10-point victory. Mission’s Aieisha Luyken led the Cascades with 15 points, four assists and two steals.
On Saturday, UFV defeated the Alberta Pandas, 68-67. In this close game, UFV was able to send the Pandas to their second straight conference loss with a strong second quarter in which they overcame a seven-point deficit to go into the locker room up by two points, 37-35.
In the second half, UFV played strong defence and kept the Pandas from scoring the winning basket down the stretch.
