Vancouver Island University’s basketball teams were successful on the weekend in PacWest play, as the men’s team defeated the Quest Kermodes 76-72 on Friday and then edged the Langara Falcons 87-85 the next day. VIU’s women beat Quest 49-43, then blew out Langara 60-33.

In Friday’s men’s game, John Thompson and Josh Ross each scored 19 points, with Ross adding 12 rebounds. The next day Thompson scored 28 points, Bryson Cox added 15 and Jason Fortin pulled down 14 rebounds.

The women were led Friday by Sienna Pollard’s 17 points, while Lanae Adams scored 14 to go with 10 rebounds. On Saturday, Sara Simovic was top scorer with 19, Adams had 18 points and 10 boards and Pollard also scored 18.

GAME ON … VIU’s teams play at home this Friday (Jan. 22) and Saturday, facing the Capilano Blues and then the Douglas Royals. Friday’s game times are 6 and 8 p.m., while Saturday’s tipoff times are at 1 and 3 p.m. at the Vancouver Island University gym.
