The Mission Marlins swim club kicked off the summer swim season by hosting the Brent Hayden Invitational swim meet May 24-25 at the Mission Leisure Centre.
The meet was a success, hosting more than 360 swimmers from around the Fraser Valley, and even a few from Vancouver Island.
Among the highlights was nine-year-old Reggie Wiebe winning all six of the events she entered, and posting provincial qualifying times in both freestyle and backstroke. Trenton Tebbutt was awarded the Brent Hayden Award, given to the swimmer with an outstanding personal performance, for his 1:10.44 time in his 100m freestyle event.
“Trenton swam a great race,” said head coach Christina Diewold. “It was a really good start to the season for our entire club.”
Mission will also be hosting the Fraser Valley Regional Championship meet later this summer, Aug. 1-3, also at the Mission Leisure Centre.
