Martial artists belt up

Local karate students get graded in pair of testings.

The Bushido Shotokan Karate dojo put its students in Port Hardy and Sointula to the test last week as the club brought in Sensei Joe Dixon from Vancouver for a pair of seminar and testing events on the North Island.

After an instructional session where Sensei Dixon put the martial artists through their paces and gave insights on the finer points of the art, students were divided up for testing.

Each group performed a series of moves on command from the instructors then formed up to perform a kata (a prearranged sequence of moves) before pairing up to demonstrate sparring moves.
