The Vernon Sun Valley Source for Sports Vipers opened up their home Bantam Tier 1 hockey tournament with a convincing 8-3 victory over the POE Varsity Club team from Kelowna.
MVP Braeden McAmmond led the way Friday afternoon at the Civic Arena with a pair of goals, including a beauty snipe on a breakaway while linemates Colby Feist (2+1) and Trevor Kennedy (1+1) both had solid performances.
Porter Trevelyan, Steel Quiring and Jacob Jones rounded out the scoring. Defenceman Ben Imrich chipped in with a pair of assists.
Goalie Cayden Hamming took the victory in a game that the Vipers dominated.
In other action the Kelowna Rockets dropped a hard-fought battle with the Kamloops Blazers, 5-2, Port Moody squeaked by the South Delta Storm 1-0 and Edmonton dropped Langley 6-2.
Vernon played against South Delta and Port Moody Saturday. The championship final is slated for 12:45 p.m. Sunday at the Civic.
Vernon H&L Glass Junior Vipers tuned up for their Okanagan Minor Hockey Atom Development B League game with Salmon Sunday afternoon at Kal Tire Place (3:15 p.m.) by splitting a pair of games last weekend.
Vernon beat Kelowna 6-4 in league action with Maguire Nicholson and Ryan Cox leading the way with 1+1. Oliver Murray, Dominic Meyer, Tyler Hutton and Alessandro Durfeld.
In exhibition play, Vernon fell 7-4 to Penticton, getting goals from Nicholson, Murray, Mark Johnson and Morgan Hackman.
