Mitchell Thiessen was the best Canadian golfer at the 2016 Junior Euro Cup, leading his country to silver.
The Sardis secondary school student flew to Scotland for the prestigious event that saw him tee off at three historic courses.
Competing in the U-19 group, the teenager tackled the 170 year old Leven Links course last Monday, finishing third in the Leven Links Junior Open.
The Euro Cup officially started Tuesday, with first round play at the 199 year old Scotscraig Golf Club.
Mitchell was matched against American Krando Nishiba and Scot Stewart Philp.
He battled Philp to a draw and lost to Nishiba on the 18th hole, leaving him a half point down entering round two. Back on the Leven Links, Thiessen edged Scotland’s Sam Nicholson and lost to American Dylan Menante.
Thiessen saved his best for last.
His Canadian crew battled wind and rain at the Crailhead Links, with the Chilliwackian winning both of his matches. He got his revenge on Nicholson with a 1-up victory, and took down American Ryan Hartanto.
He supplied the decisive points as Canada finished ahead of Scotland in the overall standings, 24 to 22.
The United States topped the field with 44 points.
