More than 120 players gathered at Lions Park for the Abbotsford Angels Hardball Association's mosquito skills competition and all-star game.

More than 120 players and hundreds more family and friends gathered at Lions Park for the Abbotsford Angels Hardball Association‘s mosquito skills competition and all-star game last Saturday.

In the skills competition, Jack Taylor of the Nationals edged Ronan Sexton (Orioles) and Conner Krahn (Braves) in the catcher’s throw event. Trey Smith of the Blue Jays won his second consecutive home run derby, taking the title over strong challenges from Jack Niell (Dodgers) and Quenton Kobes (Royals).

The most closely contested event was the fastest pitch – Micah Bucknam (Blue Jays) outlasted Dakota Janzen (Orioles) after multiple overtime rounds, and Brady Fehlauer (Mariners) took third.

The Pirates (round the horn throwing relay) and the Blue Jays (baserunning relay) won the team skills competitions.

In the all-star game, the American League beat the National League 9-6, with Smith and Taylor earned their respective team’s MVP awards. Levi Kropp was named most sportsmanlike player, and Aiden Cuttrell was a commissioner’s selection.
