Mustangs charge to victory in Armstrong, seniors win in Summerland

The Princess Margaret Mustangs junior and senior girls basketball teams claim victories

The Princess Margaret junior girls basketball team claimed victory at the Armstrong Sno-Ball tournament last weekend.

The Mustangs, built mainly of Grade 9 students were tenacious in the eight-team tournament through injury and foul trouble. Coach Sandra Richardson said the players showed growth and athleticism in defeating OKM (48-46), Pleasant Valley Secondary (48-34), Salmon Arm (63-34) and in the finals, Seaton Secondary (51-50).

Mustang senior girls down Rockets

The Princess Margaret Mustangs senior girls basketball team earned a 62-31 victory over the Summerland Rockets on Wednesday.

The Mustangs were led offensively by Caitlyn Neary, who collected 14 points, while Reiley Terbasket and Shinaaz Johal, chipped in 11 and 10 points respectively. Junior team call-up Vanessa Edis, had a strong performance with nine points.

Coach Dave Killick said that Steph Gomes-Ortiz was very active at the front of the zone and created a number of turnovers to go with five points.

On Jan. 19, the Mustangs defeated the Kelowna Secondary School B-team 54-39 in an exhibition match. Terbasket scored 18 points.

The next action for the Mustangs comes next weekend when they compete in the Summerland Classic.
