It’s back-to-back Cross City for Kaylee victories for the Princess Margaret Mustangs basketball team.
The senior boys squad downed the Pen High Lakers 66-58 on Feb. 18 at Princess Margaret.
Prab Chahal led the Mustangs with 21 points while Jacob Winstone added 17 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks to help overcome a 13-point advantage for the Lakers in the third quarter.
“Our guys did not quit,” said Mustangs assistant coach Dan Van Os. “Even when we were down, we felt if we could just keep the pressure on them, we could wear them down.”
The Mustangs outscored Pen High 23-10 in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
“I was very happy with how we were patient against their zone,” said Mustangs coach Raj Dhillon. “Our execution really made the difference.”
A total of $1368.24 was raised for the Kaylee Hero Fund.
The Mustangs now look forward to the Valley AA Championships hosted in Oliver, February 25-27. The team plays Westsyde (Kamloops) in the first round.
Van Os said with the parity in the league, up to six teams have realistic chances to claim one of the two provincial berths awarded to the Okanagan. Besides the host Hornets, Maggie, Westsyde, Clarence Fulton, Pleasant Valley, Summerland, Sahali and Seaton round out the eight teams competing.
