The Princess Margaret Mustangs senior boys volleyball team opened its AA Okanagan season with a victory over the Oliver Hornets Wednesday.
The Mustangs defeated the Hornets 25-10, 25-12 and 25-10 in the best-of-five match.
Mustangs coach Rich Corrie said his team got off to a strong start. They were very aggressive on offence led by power hitter Connor Graham’s attacks from the outside. Jacob Winstone hit some thundering quick sets from the middle and kept Oliver off balance with a tough serve. Brett Van Os also provided some much needed defence and passing to set up the strong offensive attack.
“It was a good overall match, we kept our own errors under control and kept Oliver on their heels,” he said. “It is going to be a very competitive league in the Okanagan Valley with many of the teams at a similar skill level.”
On Sept. 30, the Mustangs, who received an honourable mention in provincial rankings, will host league action at 5, 6 and 7 p.m.
The Mustang senior girls are currently ranked No.5 in the province.
