Nanaimo BMX racers win at grand nationals

A contingent of locals competed at the BMX Canada Grand Nationals at Chilliwack's Heritage Park over the Thanksgiving weekend.

The Nanaimo BMX Association can boast two national champions and a bunch more rip-roaring riders after the grand finale to the season.

Mackay Leslie won Sunday’s grand national championship in his 16-year-old cruiser division, while Matthew Greskovits won both his Saturday and Sunday races in the 15-year-old intermediate division.

Top-five results from grand nationals include:

Seven-year-old girls – Lauren Churko, fourth, fourth.

Eight-year-old girls – Hannah Green, fourth, fourth.

Nine-year-old girls – Allison Churko, third, first.

16-year-old girls – Taylor Kambeitz, second, fourth.

17-27-year-old women – Michelle Berti, fourth, fifth.

12-year-old cruiser – Ayden Houle, second, second.

13-year-old cruiser – Benjamin Leslie, fourth.

16-year-old cruiser – Mackay Leslie, second, first.

17-20-year-old cruiser – Hunter McGill, second, third.

31-35-year-old cruiser – Mike Smith, fourth, fourth.

Five-and-under novice – Bailey Smith, third, second.

Six-year-old novice – Jaxson Smith, first.

15-year-old intermediate – Matthew Greskovits, first, first.

12-year-old expert – Ayden Houle, fifth, fourth.

16-year-old expert – Mackay Leslie, third, fourth.
