Nanaimo BMX racers pedalled fast enough to become grand champions.
The Nanaimo BMX Association had a contingent of riders at the American Bicycle Association’s Canadian Grand Nationals this past weekend in Chilliwack. The three-day event included grand nationals races Saturday and Sunday at Heritage Park.
Ayden Houle won championships in his 13-year-old cruiser division, placing first both days. Ryan Kerney took first in his 13-year-old intermediate class both days. Allison Churko was first in the 10-and-under girls’ cruiser division on Saturday. Hunter McGill placed first in the 17-20 cruiser class on Sunday and Greg McGill won in masters’ competition that day.

17-20-year-old women – Michelle Berti, second, second.
11-year-old cruiser – Mitchel Landry, second, second.
13-year-old cruiser – Ayden Houle, first, first.
31-35-year-old cruiser – Mike Smith, second, second.
10-and-under girls’ cruiser – Allison Churko, first, second.
13-year-old intermediate – Ryan Kerney, first, first.
17-20-year-old open – Mackay Leslie, third.
14-year-old cruiser – Jack Bradley, third.
17-20-year-old cruiser – Hunter McGill, first.
61-and-over – Greg McGill, first.
Six-year-old intermediate – Ryley Cofield, third.
13-year-old expert – Ayden Houle, third.
17-18-year-old expert – Hunter McGill, second.
