Nelson paddlers dominate at BC Summer Games

Local athletes won four team medals and five individual medals, only one of which wasn't in a canoe, Thursday to Sunday in Abbotsford.

Nelson’s paddlers owned the podium at the BC Summer Games.

Local athletes won four team medals and five individual medals, only one of which wasn’t in a canoe, Thursday to Sunday in Abbotsford.

Heather Potkins was the city’s most decorated athlete. Potkins took individual canoe gold in the girls slalom C-1 open, silver in the C-1 2,000-metre open and bronze in the 500 train to train.

Potkins also won bronze with Tessa Timmermans in the C-2 500 train to train and another bronze with Anna Milde in the C-2 2,000 open.

Potkins’ Nelson Kayak and Canoe Club teammate Bailey Stefani won two gold, first in the girls C-1 200 learn to train final then again with Milde in the C-2 500 learn to train.

Potkins, Stefani, Timmermans and Milde also teamed up to take bronze in the girls C-5 500 open.

Equestian athlete Indigo Bowick, meanwhile, took bronze in boys and girls vaulting Event 2 final.
