Nelson U18 girls take silver in Penticton

The U18 Nelson Selects lost 2-nil to Chilliwack in the gold medal game of the provincials this afternoon in Penticton.

The Nelson U18 girls lost 2-nil to Chilliwack in the gold medal game of their soccer provincials this afternoon in Penticton.

They went undefeated except for the final game and had to settle for silver.

They beat Columbia Valley 4-1 on Thursday, played Williams Lake to a scoreless draw on Friday, and beat Powell River 2-0 on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Nelson U16 girls placed sixth after falling 4-2 today to Pinnacles FC.

The Nelson U13 boys finished fifth, with a 2-1 win over Terrace today in 100 Mile House.

Coach Kevin Carmichael said Nelson “dominated play, out-chancing and outscoring Terrace.”

Carter Anderson scored a goal to put Nelson up 1-0, which is how the half ended. Terrace tied it up with a defection off of one of the Nelson defenders. Noah McBriar scored late in the game after consistent pressure to put Nelson back in the lead for good.

The U14 boys and U15 boys each finished seventh after defeating host 100 Mile House 2-1 and Quesnel 3-0 respectively today.
