Neudorf pumps up Sistas

Diane Neudorf celebrated the start of World Cup by scoring three times as Sistas stopped The Mix 4-1

Diane Neudorf celebrated the start of World Cup 2014 by scoring three times as OTC/Sunterra Custom Homes Sistas stopped The Mix 4-1 Thursday night at Marshall Field #5.

Nicole Williams added a single and Cassandra Otto drew three assists in the North Okanagan Women’s Soccer Association Division 2 game.

The Sistas welcomed back Tania Wirachowsky just five-and-a-half weeks after having a baby girl. Wirachowky didn’t miss a beat and helped set up Neudorf’s third tally.

Sistas improved to 5-1, while The Mix dipped to 2-5.

The OMG Chick Kickers and Capri Insurance Brew Crew drew 1-1 at Marshall #1, while the Green Rockets grounded Centreline Attack 5-1 at Marshall #2.

Janelle Woods scored in the first half for the Kickers (0-7-1), while Shelinda Morin of the Crew (4-2-1) levelled the score in the second half.

The Kickers gave a big thanks to referee Bruce Townsend and linesmen Sam Sully and Jenna Duke.

Jodi Hawthorne played a strong game for Centreline, scoring the only goal for head coach Greg Thalheimer.

Peggy Schepp was also stellar, while keeper Azra Cawley held steady in the net for the second half, confidently cutting off balls that surely would have resulted in more goals.

In Okanagan Men’s 55+ League play, Wolfgang Bopp pulled the hat trick as the Silver Stars slammed Kelowna #1 7-1.

Bopp beat keeper Chris Turbit with a 20-yard corker, top shelf, and fooled him with a cheeky chip as the Stars improved to 6-1-1.

Mahmoud Abdel-Nader (2), Keith Chancellor and Dick Markin completed the Stars’ offence. Dave Wharton replied for Kelowna with a late tally.

The Lake Country Lakers got two goals from Mike Ley in a 4-3 win over Vernon Kal Tire at Beasley Park.

Paul Charlton and Fred Lauresen added singles for the Lakers, who grabbed a quick 2-0 lead with the tiremen short a player.

Ted Sheehan and Denis Chabot, both on stellar headers, and Mark DeVolder answered for the tiremen (3-4-1). Bob Fleming crossed from the right corner on Chabot’s header and ran miles down the flank to take the Red Robin Man of the Match.

Terry Lowe and Al Bensmiller shared the Kal Tire goalkeeping.
