Win for Saints
The Salmon Arm Fix Auto Atom Saints faced a tough opponent in Winfield 2 on Saturday, but managed to come away with the victory.
The Saints opened up a 2-0 lead in the first period, both goals courtesy of Matt Campbell. Although behind on the shot clock, Winfield scored the only goal early in the second to set up an exciting third period.
Winfield scored very early in the third to claw back within one, but Campbell got his third to record the natural hat trick at the 5:10 mark of the frame. Zander Stewart scored for the Saints 48 seconds later with a wicked wrist shot just under the bar to restore the two goal lead. Winfield wouldn’t give up, and scored with under four minutes left in the game, but a fine defensive effort from Connor Kociuba, Dawson Perry and Braden Costa, as well as strong goaltending from Evan Smith allowed the Saints to hold on for the win.
The Saints Travel to Vernon to face the K2 Stone Crushers on Sunday.

Top in tourney
This past Remembrance Day weekend, the Salmon Arm Honda Midget Tier 2 Silvertips came together as a team under the leadership of coaches Rob Fitzpatrick and Mike Olson. The first game started with class as the Cloverdale Colts and Salmon Arm Silvertips lined up for a minute of silence to pay respect to Canadian armed forces who died in the line of duty. The initial game versus Cloverdale was hard- fought but ended with an unfortunate play when Salmon Arm accidentally put the puck in their net on a clearing attempt (3-2 loss). But, the Silvertips didn’t give up. The team went on to defeat Winfield 3-1, and Burnaby 2-1 to end up second place in their round-robin pool. That meant the Silvertips made it to the semi finals in a game against Langley. The team was boosted with the arrival of Colby Ericson, back from his football final in Vancouver. A great effort by Dylan Larson (two goals), and goalie Blake Puetz delivered the Silvertips into the final with a 2-1 overtime win. Once again they faced Cloverdale. The Colts got the first goal as the Silvertips got into some penalty troubles. With tenacious penalty- killing performances of Levin Chamberlain and Zane Perry, the team survived the early turmoil. After that, the Silvertips scored six consecutive goals. Goal scorers included Ericson, Nicholas Astasiewicz (2), Cam Olson, Jason Klassen and Alex Fournier. Assists were given to Brayden Hislop (2), Don Robinson, Astasiewicz (2), Klassen, Olson (2), Larson and Ericson. The final score was 6-2 in large part due to the strong goal- tending performance of Zack Dueck.
Coach Fitzpatrick said it was a team win and he especially appreciated the team’s depth with players Keith Minnis and Konnor McCuaig stepping up where needed.
