Off-roaders race for Ray

Off-road racing is being hosted in memory of Raymond Lover, a Port Alberni resident who was an avid off-road racer and auto mechanic.

Off-road racing is being hosted in memory of Raymond Lover, a Port Alberni resident who was an avid off-road racer and auto mechanic.

This Island Off-Road Racing event will be held at the Alberni Motor Sports Park, by Woodwards Pit, on Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, May 29.

Lover passed away on November 13, 2015. his passions included off-road racing, quading and building budget breaking hot rods.

He was known to many as “Pro Mod Ray” for his expensive taste in regard to his endless car projects.

“Raymond loved animals so we are going to do a fundraiser for the SPCA and dedicate and donate it in his name,” said Darrion Alarie, a spokesperson for Island Racing.

Island Off-Road Racing is dirt track racing with events that include obstacle, team relay, sand drags, sports man wheel-to-wheel and heavy metal wheel-to-wheel. Buggies, ATVs and street legal vehicles are welcome. Racing starts at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
