The Okanagan Valley Throwdown returns to Penticton Jan. 28-29 at the South Okanagan Events Centre.
The crossfit-style event, co-presented by Hoodoo Adventures and Evolution Athletics, features more than 350 athletes competing in a variety of activities. While registration is sold out, spectators are invited to check out the action and cheer on the athletes. Partial proceeds from spectator ticket sales will go to support the Youth Outdoor Recreation Society (YORS) and the South Okanagan Children’s Charity.
“The Throwdown Series is now the largest event of its kind in Western Canada and is gaining attention on a national scale,” says Lyndie Hill, owner of Hoodoo Adventures, in a press release. “After the success of the inaugural Fraser Valley Throwdown, we have been approached by cities across the country who would like to host a Throwdown event. Consequently, our Penticton event has a wait list of more than 200 athletes who want to enter the competition.”
Hill added if they are able to fill SOEC with spectators, they will consider options for expanding the event in the future by utilizing the second rink and essentially doubling participation. Hill said it would be a huge win for the community, bringing 1,000 athletes and their families to Penticton annually in the winter months.
“I encourage everyone to come check it out,” she said.
