Osoyoos racing season approaching end of the track

Just one race remains for the Richter Pass Motorplex

Wine Country Racing Association is hosting its last event of the 2013 season, Rumble in the Valley, on Oct. 13 at Richter Pass Motorplex in Osoyoos.

Three car clubs from the Okanagan come out in full force to prove which one is the fastest. Along with these car enthusiasts comes a real treat for fans with classic cars pulling up to the starting lights. Ian Haryatt of Kelowna Kustoms took the trophy away from the Okanagan Rodtiques last season. Oliver’s Coachmasters club will be itching to slam the pedal down as they have yet to reign victorious in this event.

Gates open at 9 a.m. Anyone interested in racing must arrive early to register and have their vehicle go through a technical inspection. Time trials begin at 11 a.m. Final elimination rounds start at 1 p.m. Concessions and grand stands are available on site. Fans are welcome to bring their lawn chairs and coolers, though events are alcohol-free. Cost at the gate is $10, with kids 12 and under free when accompanied by an adult.

On Sept. 22, 35 cars hit the track for 135 separate races.

Glenn Taylor from Osoyoos won the Sportsman’s Bracket in a black 1951 Mercury pick-up over Osoyoos’ Blair Ogilvy in a white 1981 Chevrolet pick-up. The Pro Bracket final was a battle among Oliver residents. Shana Cachola (in her pink 1972 Nova) barely ripped the victory from the grasp of Doug Blatchford in a red 1969 Chevelle. The Super Pro victory belongs to Peachland’s Phil Walter, who zipped his 1986 Nissan by Dick Warren of Tonasket. David Madsen of Summerland took the trophy home in the Bike/Sled class with his 2003 black Arctic Cat snowmobile. He defeated Osoyoos’ Steve Macor on his purple 2002 Kawasaki motor cycle.

The fastest reaction time trophy went to Chip Sabyan of Oliver. For more info, visit www.winecountryracing.ca for more information.
