The University of Alberta Pandas defeated the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades, 2-1, in women’s soccer action Saturday night at Exhibition Stadium.
The Pandas opened the scoring at the nine minute mark. Edmonton native Elise Emmott sent a perfect corner kick into the goal-box, where St. Albert’s Carleigh Miller beat Cascades keeper Chantelle Biagioni (Pitt Meadows).
The Pandas added to their lead seven minutes later, with Amanda Black finishing off a perfect feed from Kayla Michaels.
UFV looked much better in the second half, getting early scoring chances from Carly Neeson (Maple Ridge) and Chilliwack native Danika Snook.
The Cascades finally got a goal late in the match when Danielle Schmidt (Abbotsford) sailed a corner kick into the box. Tristan Corneil (Surrey) re-directed the ball to Paige Friesen (Abbotsford), who popped it into the cage.
UFV’s next home game is Sept. 28 versus Manitoba.
