Pen High takes second in golf opener

Pen High Secondary placed second in the opening match of the AA/AAA Division Okanagan Golf league.

Pen High Secondary placed second in the opening match of the AA/AAA Division Okanagan Golf league.

With a score of 78, the Pen High Lakers were led by Kurtis Fontinha, who was third behind Ryley Ball of Oliver Secondary School and Jonas Montgomery of Princeton at the Penticton Golf and Country Club. Ayrton Mantha of Princess Margaret was behind Fontinha with a 78.

“Some of the higher scores are to be expected given that for many of the players this was not only their first round of the year, but also their first match of the season.  It’s a lot different pressure when you’re golfing with players from other schools,” said Lakers coach Chris Terris.

Fontinha, Grade 10, earned the low score and Haley Hewer, Grade 9, tied for the low female score. Terris said both are fantastic results. Next league matches on April 11 at Summerland Golf and Country Club.
