A handful of athletes from the KISU swim club are ready to make waves at the BC Summer Games.

The six swimmers from the club will represent Zone 2 (Okanagan) at the Games which opened on Thursday in Abbotsford and runs until July 24.

“It is a great event and great to be involved in a multisport event at that age. I think it sets them up very well for the future,” said KISU head coach Tina Hoeben. “I think that now that they are no longer competing just for KISU or their team, instead it is for the region — there is an extra sense of pride that comes with that. I think that is a really great experience for them as well.”

Evan Peters, who also recently qualified for junior nationals which will be held in Calgary, admitted he is a bit nervous because his competitors will be coming from across the province.

“I want to earn lots of points for our region and get some best times,” he said.

It is that exact thing that has Ashley McMillan buzzing with excitement for the Games.

“I like to go to new places and meet new people so that will be cool. I want to swim there because there are so many fast people it will be really good competition.”

Also hoping to perform well from the KISU club is Elijah Kliever and Justin Fotherby. Other swimmers competing from the area are Marlee Caruso, Travis Kascak and Brooklyn Parliament.

The BC Summer Games is expecting up to 3,000 athletes competing in 18 different sports.
