Peters no-hitter leads Blaze to victory

For the second time this season, Langley Senior Blaze's Jesse Peters has thrown a no-hitter

For the second time this season, Jesse Peters has thrown a no-hitter.

Peters was dominant on Thursday (July 18) at Robert Burnaby Park, allowing just three walks over seven innings in a 2-0 win for the Langley Senior Blaze over the Burnaby Bulldogs in senior men’s baseball.

He struck out eight batters. Peters also threw a no-hitter back in May against Nanaimo in the finals of the Doug Conn Memorial Tournament in Victoria.

Against Burnaby, the Blaze struck early as Joe Germaine’s first-inning single brought home Graig Merritt from third base.

The Blaze added an insurance run in the sixth when Scott Webster’s single scored Merritt. Merritt was again on base with his second double of the game.

The win improved the Blaze to 5-6 in the Pacific Metro Baseball League.

The team — which consists of local players home from the summer from their respective college and university teams — also plays in the Pacific International League. They are 7-5 in the PIL and have four league games this weekend, a pair of road doubleheaders in Washington state.

On Saturday (July 20), the team is in Everett to face the Merchants and on Sunday, they play twice in Shorecrest against the Northwest Honkers.

And in PMBL action, Langley plays at the Coquitlam Angels on July 22 at Mackie Park.
