Pirates keep up winning ways

The Hub City Paving Pirates won both their games last weekend, sweeping the Victoria Eagles by scores of 5-3 and 7-2 on Sunday in Victoria. After a tough start to the campaign, Nanaimo has won five of its last seven.

Sunday’s second game saw the Pirates amass 11 hits, led by a seventh-inning solo home run from Shane Rogers. Wyatt Strachan, Finn Martin and Noah Banman each had two hits and Chris Vlaj and Colin Borrelli had two RBIs apiece. Garrett Goodall was the winning pitcher, striking out seven in a complete game.

The early game saw Will Drewry earn the win in relief, allowing two hits and no earned runs over four innings.

The Pirates were supposed to host a doubleheader against the Victoria Mariners last Saturday, but the games were rained out.

GAME ON … The Pirates host the Coquitlam Reds this Sunday (June 5) at Serauxmen Stadium. Game times are 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
