Six members of the Port Alberni Wado Kai Karate Club took part in a black belt grading on July 9 in Nanoose Bay. Officials from the Shintani Wado Kai Karate Federation flew in from around the country to judge the six-hour, physically-gruelling examination.
Recipients of the prestigious award were Jenna West (first degree), Leona Dolling (fourth degree), MacKendrick Hallworth (first degree), Eric Olsen (fourth degree), Dennis Olsen (sixth degree) and Ivan Olsen (third degree).
