The Chilliwack Redhawks U-14 girls soccer team won the BC Coastal Girls Soccer League ‘CC’ Cup Championship last Saturday, vanquishing the Ladner Dragons to take the title.
The bronze division game was played in Vancouver.
The Chilliwack girls, who’d faced four previous do-or-die playoff matches, weren’t fazed by the pressure, even as regulation time elapsed without a single goal scored.
The game was settled in a shootout, with each team sending a maximum five players to the line.
Only four were needed for the Redhawks to win.
While Petra Middleburg was stopping everything she faced in the Chilliwack net, Danaye Reinhardt and Kara Vinchoff were pounding balls past the Ladner keeper.
After Middleburg’s final epic save, the Chilliwack girls stormed the field to celebrate the win.
The Redhawks roster included Carolyn Kooyman, Kellie Spindor, Tricia Jensen, Taylor McDonald, Megan Shields, Katelyn Minchuk, Sarah Noel, Ashley Moorehouse, Alyssa Friesen, Sarah Burke, Sam Pruss, Carlee Hagen, Hayley Stefaniuk and Toni Kurtz.
Dale Reinhardt and Jeff Shields coached.
