Rick Mercer show to clip famous rugby beard

Sun to shine on Adam Kleeberger's face for first time in nine months

It’s official: Canadian rugby player Adam Kleeberger will shave his iconic beard in Victoria during a filming of CBC’s Mercer Report, with Rick Mercer likely getting in on the clipping duties.

Various images of Kleeberger’s monstrous facial hair made headlines worldwide during the 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.

Kleeberger’s date with the barber is 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 17, outside Felicita’s Campus Pub at UVic’s Student Union Building.

The Vikes rugby player is celebrating the removal of his chin trophy for his Shear the Beard campaign to support two separate causes.

In thanks for New Zealand’s hospitality, Kleeberger will donate funds towards the Christchurch rebuild, the N.Z. town that was nearly leveled by an earthquake last February.

Once clean-shaven, Kleeberger will begin a moustache campaign for Movember, the prostate cancer fundraiser.

Visit Rugby Canada and Shear The Beard to donate.
