The Langley Rivermen have inked head coach and general manager Bobby Henderson to a five-year contract extension.
“It’s pretty interesting when you have to negotiate a contract with your son,” said Rivermen president Roy Henderson.
“We came to terms on a long-term contract with Bobby, giving a little security for him and the team.
“We’re happy to have his contract complete before the season, so he can focus on winning hockey games.”
The extension was announced on Sept. 18, the day before the start of the BCHL junior A hockey season.
Last season, Bobby Henderson guided the team to the Ron Boileau Memorial Trophy as the top team in the BCHL regular season (37-13-3-5). It was the first time a Langley junior A team accomplished the feat.
Since taking over as head coach in 2012/13, he has guided the team to a 61-39-4-10 record.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity and excited to be here long-term,” Bobby Henderson said.
‘We’ve worked hard to build the program here in Langley and it’s nice to be able to continue to see it through.”
