If you’re planning on going to the Langley Rivermen game on Dec. 11, don’t forget to bring some non-perishable food with you.

The BCHL is once again off and running with its Five Hole for Food Campaign, presented by First West Credit Union and the Rivermen will be accepting donations during their game against the Coquitlam Express.

The initiative is a friendly competition among all BCHL teams to see who can raise the most for their local food bank.

So far, three dates have been hosted.

After the effort held by the Nanaimo Clippers on Saturday, Nov. 12, they are the current leaders in the Challenge.

Saturday at Frank Crane Arena, the Clippers and their supporters raised 5,513 pounds of food which will go to their partners at the Loaves & Fishes Community Food Bank in Nanaimo.

“This is our fourth year running the Five Hole for Food Challenge and each time, we’ve managed to top the total from the previous season,” BCHL communications director Brent Mutis said. “The support we’ve seen from fans and sponsors, as well as the hard work by players and team staff, has made this a success. I’m confident we can post an even bigger number this year.”

Over the past three seasons, more than 110,000 pounds of food has been raised for food banks in B.C. and Washington.

Last season’s winners of the Challenge were the Vernon Vipers, who raised 6,877 pounds on their date.

This season’s running totals can be seen on the BCHL website on the Five Hole for Food page, under ‘THE BCHL’ menu and the ‘In the Community’ section.
