The Langley Rivermen are probably sad to see their season series come to an end with the Coquitlam Express.
After the Rivermen dropped the first two contests against their Coquitlam counterparts at the start of the B.C. Hockey League season, it has been all Langley as they have won the past five head-to-head games by a combined score 30-12.
The most recent win was a 7-1 victory on Tuesday (Feb. 5) at the Langley Events Centre.
The results leave Langley with a record of 18-19-1-5 and a five-point cushion on Coquitlam for the fourth and final playoff spot in the BCHL’s Mainland Division.
James Barr stopped 46 of 47 shots while Jakob Reichert scored two goals and added an assist.
Reichert scored twice in a 3:32 span in the second period after the Express’ Adam Rossignol had cut the lead to 2-1.
Ben Butcher, Evan Campbell, Derek Sutliffe, Austin Azurdia and Viktor Dombrovskiy had the other Rivermen goals.
Against Surrey, the teams were tied at three late in the second before the Eagles got the go-ahead goal. They added an empty-netter in the late going for the two-goal victory.
Matt Ustaski, Mitch McLain and Azurdia had the Rivermen tallies.
The Rivermen have three games over the long weekend, hosting Victoria and Merritt on Friday and Saturday, respectively, at the LEC, and then playing a matinee on Monday against the Eagles at the South Surrey Arena.
