Rodeo raising funds

A rodeo can help raise a roof in one North Okanagan community

A rodeo can help raise a roof in one North Okanagan community.

The Falkland and District Community Association will host a one-day B.C. Rodeo Association rodeo on Saturday, Sept. 26 at the Falkland Stampede grounds.

All proceeds will be used to put a roof over Falkland’s multi-sports complex, and purchase a refrigeration unit to make artificial ice.

“We hope to include indoor washrooms to replace our outhouse, and wheelchair accessible changerooms,” said Martin Hennigar, president of the Falkland and District Community Association.

“A roof over the facility and the ability to make artificial ice will provide us with a guaranteed season of time.”

Residents of Falkland have a long way to go at awkward times to participate in organized sports.

A roofed multi-sports complex will encourage the youth and families of Falkland, Westwold and surrounding areas to come out, have fun, socialize and provide an opportunity for ice time closer to home.

“The facility will also be available to other interest groups wishing to organize a sport or event year-round,” said Hennigar.

Admission for the rodeo will be $10 for adults, $5 for children aged seven-to-12, and free for kids six and under.

A family pass (two adults, two kids) is $25.
