Rose leads Knights rally

Langley scores twice in final two minutes to force overtime, defeats Mission City 3-2

Less than two minutes away from a fifth consecutive defeat, the Langley Knights struck for a pair of goals to force overtime. And in the extra period, Carson Rose’s second of the night gave Langley the bonus point as they edged the Mission City Outlaws 3-2.

The game was played on New Year’s Day at the George Preston Recreation Centre in PJHL junior B hockey action.

Mission City’s Michael Holub had given the visitors a 2-0 with just over eight minutes to play but the Outlaws would take a pair of penalties in the final 3:02 and both times, the Knights capitalized.

Colin Catchpole got the home side on the board and 31 seconds later, Rose knotted the game at two, setting up his overtime heroics.

Langley had all four shots in the extra period with Rose netting the winner at 2:29. The goal was his 28th of the season, which is tied for second in the league.

The game’s other goal came from Holub on a second period Mission City power play.

The victory improved Langley to 16-14-1-1 and their 34 points have them tied for second place in the Harold Brittain Conference, three back of the division-leading Aldergrove Kodiaks.

The Knights are in action on Jan. 2 when they visit the Ridge Meadows Flames.

Langley also has a charity game on Jan. 4 as they welcome the Vancouver Canucks alumni squad to the Preston Centre. Game time is 4 p.m. and tickets cost $10 with proceeds going to Sophie’s Place, a child advocacy centre, and Langley’s Centre for Child Development.
