Roster changes for ’Dogs

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs have announced some roster changes heading toward the Jan. 10 B.C. Hockey League trading deadline.

The Bulldogs on Tuesday acquired forward Ryan Finnegan from the Merritt Centennials in exchange for future considerations.

“We are thrilled to add a player with the credibility that Ryan has,” head coach and general manager Kevin Willison said.

“It is always nice to add someone that can make things happen on the ice and we are looking forward to working with Ryan as he continues his development toward the NCAA Div. 1 level.”

Willison predicts Finnegan, at five-foot-eight, will bring speed and skill to an already quick group of forwards. This season with the Centennials Finnegan had already scored seven points in 22 games.

The Tecumseh, Kansas native is committed to play NCAA Div. 1 hockey at Quinnipiac University in 2017.

Earlier in the week the Bulldogs assigned Port Alberni-born forward Logan Savard to the Oceanside Generals of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League. In 20 games with the Bulldogs this season Savard failed to register a point.

This leaves the Bulldogs with an active roster of 21 players and one open spot. That means the Bulldogs will be able to add one player before the trading deadline without having to move a rostered player first.

The Bulldogs’ road trip continues this weekend with a game in Trail on Friday, Dec. 4, Penticton on Saturday, Dec. 5 and Coquitlam on Sunday, Dec. 6. The Bulldogs will have one day off at home before heading down to Victoria for a rare Tuesday game Dec. 8 against the Grizzlies.

The Bulldogs are finally back home Friday, Dec. 11 to host West Kelowna.
