Mike Mason and Jessica Smith of Abbotsford’s Valley Royals track and field club have been named to Canada’s team for the Commonwealth Games.

That event runs July 23 to Aug. 3 in Glasgow, Scotland. Mason, a high jumper, and Smith, who runs the 800 metres, were both members of Canada’s team at the 2012 Olympics in London, with Mason making the finals in his event and finishing in eighth place.

This season, Smith has a best time in the 800m of 2:01.42, while Mason has cleared 2.28 meters in the high jump. Both of those performances were achieved last month at the Mt. Sac Relays in Los Angeles.

Mason, who resides in Abbotsford, is coached by Ziggy Szelagowicz while Burnaby resident Smith is coached by Brit Townsend.
