Three products of the Aldergrove Secondary rugby program were recognized for their achievements with the Abbotsford Rugby Club this past week.
Connor Hunter (centre) was named the U19 most valuable player while twin brothers Josh and Jake Thiel were named the U16 rookie of the year and winner of the coach’s award, respectively.
Connor Hunter has now been selected to travel with the National U19 rugby team to England this February and March and needs to raise funds to travel.
Rugby Canada has provided a means for him to raise funds online (see weblink https://donate.rugbycanada.ca/e/connorhunter).
Connor Hunter said, “I have been a late selection for the upcoming tour to England with the U-19 Canada team.
“Since I have been a late selection to this team I haven’t had as much time to fundraise and we leave in just over a month. Any donations will help out.”
“I currently play for Abbotsford Rugby Club, Fraser Valley Venom, and U-18 B.C., which won nationals,” said Hunter.
“I graduated from Aldergrove Community Secondary School. To come from such a small town and to my knowledge, be the first male athlete from Aldergrove to represent Canada in rugby, is huge for me.”
