The Sardis Falcons made their field lacrosse debut last week, hitting the road for their first ever game in Pitt Meadows, a 10-4 loss.
The second major sport added by Sardis this spring (hockey’s the other), the lacrosse squad will play in the BC High School Sports tier-two league.
The small circuit includes Pitt Meadows, Langley, Riverside (Port Coquitlam), Heritage Woods (Port Moody) and Vancouver College.
The Falcons are theoretically supposed to play their home opener Thursday vs Heritage Park at Exhibition Stadium, but will likely be thwarted by the snow.
Sardis vice principal and lacrosse coach Dan Heisler has a roster of 20+ students and a coaching staff that includes a lot of Porters.
Chase, Colton, Zach and Brodie are all on board and all bring a wealth of high level lacrosse experience. The coaching staff also includes Jeff Grenier and former University of Ottawa player Drew Paddon.
“Once the word was out, I had interest from over 10 coaches in the community,” Heisler said. “We narrowed that list down to six very good coaches with an amazing amount of lacrosse experience.”
“Players and their families and amazing support from local businesses and community organizations has helped us raise $3500 to for new team helmets and uniforms.”
Heisler also credited the Chilliwack Hawks Field Lacrosse Club for sharing resources and helping the Falcons take flight.
