Schenker sparks Pogos

The crafty Schenker pretty much owned the ball and enjoyed multiple chances.

Take enough shots and eventually some of them are going to find the net. Such was the story for Bryan Schenker of the Turn-Key Control Ogopogos Monday night at Beasley Park in Lake Country.

The crafty Schenker pretty much owned the ball and enjoyed multiple chances, scoring twice as the Pogos grounded RPM Automotive of Kelowna 4-0 in Capri Insurance Men’s 45+ Soccer League play.Schenker received a pass from slick Chris Arnason in the early going, broke through the defence and fired the ball just over the keeper’s head.

It was 1-0 Pogos at the recess with Arnason and Schenker combining to set up Mark Wasylyk for the 2-0 snipe.

Schenker supplied additonal insurance, while Volker Otto connected off a corner for the final goal. Mike Moorlag earned the easy clean sheet as Turn-Key improved to 7-10 and two points back of the sixth-place Auto crew. The top eight teams qualify for the A side playoffs.

The Pogo back line of Dan Ondzik, Steve Coombs, Rick Danyluk and Steve Fitzpatrick had an exquisite match, giving the high-scoring RPM offence nothing all night.

RPM dropped to 7-7-2 with four games remaining until the post-season dance.

Meanwhile, the Okanagan Spring Brewery Camels forfeited 1-0 to Penticton United since they couldn’t field a team at Kings Park in the Peach City. Penticton is 13-1-3, the Camels 9-7-2.

Brandt’s Creek counted two goals in five minutes midway through the second half and hung on for a 2-1 win over Bosman Accounting at Marshall #1.

Keeper Yogi Kongsdorf made a number of stellar saves as the Pubbers pressured hard in the opening 25 minutes.

As things progressed, Bosman began to find their feet and had the odd chance. The game looked to be destined for a draw before Chad Wardman exposed the Bosman defence for two snipes. Brandt’s is 9-8-1.

Louie Fuscaldo converted a late consolation marker for 2-12-4 Bosman, assisted by Sam Klair. The Burger King Man of the Match for Bosman was central defender Kilmer Hagen for his aggressive tackling and hustle.

Don Brown’s strike in the 33rd minute gave league-leading Brown Benefits a 1-0 victory over Cantinas at Mission Sportsfields #12.

The league leaders (17-0-1) spent most of the 90 minutes game camped in the Cantinas’ half but were continually thwarted by the goalkeeping heroics of Jay Christensen, including a deflected shot that was destined for the top corner that he managed to get a hand on.

Braided warrior Cheryl Roddis scored once and took the Arrowhead Electric Lady of the Match as VQA shaded Rosters 3-2 in a make-up women’s Masters game Sunday night.

Ginger Nickoli and Jenn Hatten also tallied for VQA, who got great goalkeeping from Bobbie Jo Gordon.

Rosters hit back with two goals in the final 10 minutes with Renee Cooke burying a sweet corner by Monika Jatel and Katie Reid knocking in a rebound from in tight.

The Rosters’ defenders and midfielders ran their butts off with only one substitute. Tessa Derksen was the Dairy Queen Lady of the Match for the sports clubbers.
