Seaton Sonics brush off Fulton Maroons

The Seaton AAA Sonics stayed undefeated by dispatching  the Fulton AA Maroons 3-1 (25-21, 25-27, 15-25, 25-21) in a North Zone Senior Girls volleyball marathon.

The match featured several rallies that went on forever as each team swung hard and passed well. Seaton’s Sam Scott stabilized several sets with strong play and recorded eight clutch kills and great serving. Drew Barker was diving all over the floor to pass balls.

Maddie Findlay-Proctor was steady passing and played power in the final two sets and registered several kills for Seaton. Emma Haner led the Sonics with nine kills and Ava Haldane posted eight kills and five blocks.

“The girls played tough and had to come back in a couple of the sets with strong serving from Kalli Hamilton-Gee,” said Sonic coach Jeff Huggins. “They had to battle through a tough match against a well-coached Sharon Shaigec team.”

Abbey Hughes led the Fulton attack with 18 kills, while Emily Dahl had 12.

Allison Hobkirk rang up four stuff blocks and nine kills from the middle. while Murriah Robertson tallied one block and 46 assists from the setter position.

In senior AA boys play, Fulton brushed back Seaton 3-1 (21-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-18).

Next action for the Maroons is AA League action Tuesday at Kal (5:30 p.m.).
