The Nanaimo Timbermen know what players they won’t have in the lineup in 2013 after some major trades in the off-season. So now they’re determining exactly what they do have.
The Coastal Windows Timbermen senior A lacrosse team opened training camp April 17 at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.
“Guys are going to have step up but they’re going to be getting the opportunity to, now,” said Kaleb Toth, the team’s coach. “It’s an exciting time for a lot of these young players because now they’re going to be counted on to produce a lot more.”
Roster numbers are always low at this time of year, but increase as players finish their college and pro seasons. In the meantime, the T-men who are in town can still make progress.
“Most of the guys, they go to the box by themselves. So they’ve had the sticks in their hands, it’s just that conditioning and that battling and that running against somebody, that’s what you really have to work on,” said Toth.
