Senior Blaze fall in opener

A three-run third inning was the difference as the Coquitlam Angels defeated the Langley Senior Blaze.

The Angels defeated Langley 3-2 at Mundy Park on May 27 in the Blaze’s Pacific Metro Baseball League season opener.

The Angels struck for three runs in the bottom of the third inning to erase a 1-0 lead.

Langley would score one more run in the top of the seventh when Brad Antchak’s double scored Laszio Horvath. But the Blaze would be unable to cash in the tying run.

Brandon Sonnenberg had the other Blaze RBI.

Shane Kraemer took the loss, allowing three runs over five innings. He struck out eight and allowed just five hits and one walk.

The Blaze, who are made up of collegiate players from the Lower Mainland area home for the summer, are facing the San Francisco Seals in a pair of exhibition games next week.

The teams play at Abbotsford’s Delair Park on Tuesday (June 3) and the next night at McLeod Park.

The Seals are a collegiate level baseball team made up of players from NCAA, NAIA and junior college players.
