Seven straight wins for Junior Blaze

Langley U16 baseball team edges Whalley, sweeps North Delta to keep winning streak intact

Three more victories helped the Langley Junior Blaze stretch their winning streak to seven games.

The Blaze edged the Whalley Junior Chiefs 9-8 on Friday night before sweeping the North Delta Junior Blue Jays 4-1 and 10-5 on Sunday.

All three games were at McLeod Athletic Park and the wins improved Langley to 17-5 in the B.C. Junior Premier Baseball League standings.

Langley needed four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to edge the Chiefs 8-7 in the first game.

After Brayden Cameron and Colby Ring each had an RBI single, Daniel Martin drove them both home with a two-run single.

Mack Berry and Jake Kristensen each had an RBI double while Trevor Alcos and Jayden Knight had RBI singles.

Kyle Pfeifer earned the win, striking out three while allowing two hits and one earned run in one inning. Brett Jackson earned the save.

Ring earned the win in Sunday’s first game, striking out five while allowing one run in four innings in the 4-1 victory.

Martin drove in two runs while Brendan Winning had an RBI single and Mack Berry had an RBI double.

And the Blaze completed the sweep, rallying from an early 5-1 deficit by scoring the game’s final nine runs in the 10-5 victory.

The Blue Jays struck for all of their runs in the second inning but Pfeifer and Jackson combined to allow no more runs over the final 5.1 innings.

Jackson struck out six and earned the win.

And for the third straight game, Martin had a multi-RBI game, finishing with three hits — and just a triple shy of hitting for the cycle — and three RBIs.

Ring, Alcos and Michel Saulter each drove in a pair of runs while Terrell Rogers had one RBI.

Langley will look to make it eight straight victories when they host the Chiefs on June 15 at McLeod Park. Game starts at 7 p.m.
