Shot-making impressive at bowls provincials

NANAIMO – Juan de Fuca skip David Mathie won the men's triples championship, defeating Richmond’s Eric Leung 12-8 in the final.

Talented lawn bowlers combined for some high-calibre games at provincial championships last week.

The Nanaimo Lawn Bowling Club hosted the Bowls B.C. men’s triples championship Tuesday through Thursday.

Juan de Fuca skip David Mathie won the championship, defeating Richmond’s Eric Leung 12-8 in the final. Mathie teamed with George Cubiss of Maple Ridge and Arthur Harrison of Juan de Fuca. Leung’s team included Kerrisdale’s Bob Scott and Richmond’s Kevin Lai.

Port Alberni’s Stephen Forrest earned bronze with his teammates Francis Yau and Simon Leung of Richmond.

Nanaimo’s Vern Hagstrom, along with Al Barrass and and Keith McMann, placed in the top six.
