Shuswap swimmers head to Provincials

Shuswap Swimming Team will be sending swimmers to Richmond for AAA championships.

The Shuswap Swimming Team took four swimmers to the Swim BC AA Long Course Provincial Championships in Victoria June 22 to 24.

Approximately 350 swimmers from throughout B.C. and the Yukon were there, and the Shuswap Swimming Team had a great meet.

Paige Coutlee was the only female from the team at the competition.

She won the silver medal in the 100-metre backstroke, and the bronze medal in the 200-m backstroke and 100-m butterfly races.

Olin Mosher led the way in the medal count, as he won four medals at the competition: gold in the 12-year-old boys 200-m individual medley, 100-m butterfly and 100-m freestyle, as well as silver in the 50-m freestyle.  Ty Webster-Locke also brought home three medals of his own, winning gold in the 12-year-old boys 50-m freestyle and bronze in the 100-m and 200-m freestyle races. Also racing to a pair of medals was Logan Pilias who won gold in the 14-year-old boys 50-m freestyle, and silver in the 100-m butterfly races.

The icing on the cake for the team was that Ty Webster-Locke was able to swim fast enough in his gold- medal performance in the 50-m freestyle to qualify him to compete at the Swim BC  AAA Provincial Championships.

Likewise, Olin Mosher also achieved his AAA qualifying standard the next day in his gold medal win in the 100-m freestyle.

The next swim meet for the team will be the Swim BC AAA Provincial Championships in Richmond on July 5 to 8, where teammates Bree Cooper and Jake Kitchen will also be competing.
