The Abbotsford bantam A Angels baseball team added to the local minor baseball association’s provincial medal count last weekend, winning silver at their B.C. championship tournament in Burnaby.
The bantam A squad, which finished second in Lower Mainland league play, won its pool at provincials with a 4-1 record, with victories over Newton, Surrey/New West, Kamloops and Comox.
The Angels defeated White Rock 12-3 in the semifinals, punching their ticket to the championship game vs. the Campbell River Tyees. Campbell River edged Abbotsford 12-11 in a thrilling back-and-forth contest.
Also on the weekend, the Angels’ mosquito AAA Tier 2 team traveled to Duncan for their provincials. The Abby squad posted a 2-2 record during pool play, with wins over West Kelowna and Prince George, but fell short of advancing to the semifinals.
The bantam A team’s silver medal brought the Abbotsford Angels Hardball Association’s provincial medal count to five. The previous weekend, the peewee AAA and mosquito AAA Tier 1 teams both won B.C. titles, while the bantam AAAs took silver and the mosquito A squad took bronze.
