Eleven Chilliwack Spartans took the ferry to Vancouver Island last weekend to compete in the B.C. AAA Provincial swim meet.
The local athletes took on 630 swimmers between the ages of 10 and 25 in the four-day event. Thirteen-year-old Jessie Gibson had a spectacular meet, winning a medal in all six of her races.
Gibson grabbed silver in the 100 and 200 metre flies, 200m backstroke and 400m individual medley.
She added bronze medal finishes in the 100m backstroke and 200m individual medley.
In the same division, Sydney Torok finished eighth in the 800m freestyle.
Carson Olafson competed in the 14-year-old boys division, finishing fourth in the 400m freestyle.
He placed fifth in the 1500m freestyle, seventh in the 200m freestyle and eighth in the 200m fly.
Attending a provincial meet for the first time, Colton Peterson placed eighth in the 100m breaststroke while going up against 15-year-old boys.
Racing in the 16-and-over open category, Jordan Torok splashed his way to seventh in both the 400m individual medley and 200m fly. Torok placed eighth in the 1500m freestyle.
The next meet for Spartan swimmers is the Canadian Age Group Nationals, taking place in Montreal at the end of July. Gibson and Olafson will be travelling to Quebec.
